Gizmos

This month’s edition of “Gizmos and Gadgets” features a feed-saving round-bale feeder, an ear tagger for both traditional and eID tags, a farm and home all-purpose cleaner and a calf health kit for calving.

Feed-saving round-bale feeder

The Bextra Feeder innovation exceeds all convenience, economic and durability standards in hay-feeding practices. Designed with commercial cattlemen in mind, the feeder is constructed of high-quality U.S. steel and weighs approximately 300 pounds (lb.). The Bextra square bale feeder is constructed of high-quality U.S. steel and weighs approximately 550 lb. All connection points, tubing and sheet steel are fabricated by precision CNC equipment in a controlled manufacturing environment and welded with strict quality control practices and industry standards.

Research conducted by David Lalman and associates at Oklahoma State University demonstrated that using a Bextra feeder, referred to as a modified cone feeder, reduced hay waste by up to 58%, 70% and 75%, as compared to conventional skirted, open-bottom feeders and poly feeders, respectively.
