Targeting the Brand Logo
Want to take your herd to the next level?

In addition to having an American Angus Association registration number, you can select a sire that features the The Targeting the Brand™ logo on their EPD. This logo identifies cattle that meet the Certified Angus Beef® brand’s baseline genetic recommendations.

Targeting the Brand™ is one of several tools to help you capitalize on opportunities to capture grid premiums that packers pay each year for meeting the CAB brand standards. Annually, CAB carcasses returned nearly $100 per head above market average. Emphasizing high-quality genetics can get you there faster.

Bull-Buying Strategies

Interpreting Registration certificates

EPDs and $Values explained

For the most part, herd improvement comes from the sires chosen to produce each calf crop. Buy bulls that help you reach your goals.  Break down the parts and pieces of a registration certificate and what they mean for your herd. Reading EPDs and $Values doesn’t have to be hard. Review the basics or use this page as a reference when making selection decisions.

Want to top the markets on sale day?

Topping the markets doesn't happen by accident. Buyers are looking for calves out of registered Angus bulls. In 2025, they paid a $20.92 cwt premium for AngusLink® program cattle.

The steps are simple. Validate your breed makeup using Angus Verified & the Genetic Merit Scorecard®This USDA Process-Verified Program (PVP) documents and verifies, at minimum, that your enrolled calves are 50% Angus.

Step 1: Contact our partner, Where Food Comes From, to initiate enrollment for calves.

Step 2: Submit sire records for AngusLink programs.

Step 3: Receive AngusVerified marketing certificate and Genetic Merit Scorecard for your enrolled calf crop.

What is the Genetic Merit Scorecard?

The Genetic Merit Scorecard® (GMS) draws on the industry’s largest database to evaluate calf genetics. It projects your calves performance merit from weaning to the packing plant, using the breeding history of your herd.

Differentiate your calves on sale day by using the Genetic Merit Scorecard to effectively communicate the genetic merit of your calves to potential buyers. Scores indicate how cattle will perform in the feedlot and on the rail, and buyers are willing to pay a premium for your investment.
