Gizmos

This month’s edition of “Gizmos & Gadgets” features an intranasal bovine respiratory disease (BRD) vaccine, a new white drench dewormer and a compact track loader.

PrimeLineIntranasal BRD vaccine

PrimeLine® IN5 is a safe and effective modified-live virus (MLV) intranasal vaccine for healthy cattle 3 days of age or older to protect against infectious bovine rhinotracheitis virus (IBR), bovine parainfluenza-3 virus (PI3), bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV), Mannheimia haemolytica and Pasteurella multocida. These are among the most common viruses and bacteria responsible for the bovine respiratory disease complex (BRDC) in the United States.

PrimeLine IN5 was developed for intranasal administration against common viral and bacterial pathogens that are a part of the BRD complex, a costly disease in beef and dairy cattle. The annual loss to the U.S. cattle industry from BRDC is $800-$900 million, a figure that likely undervalues effects on stocker, cow-calf and dairy operations1. The costs associated with BRDC are not limited to missed income due to death, but include other factors like added treatment costs and/or decreased efficiency of production. Vaccination is a useful tool for preventing negative consequences from BRDC incidents. However, around 74% of small operations (less than 50 cows) in the United States choose not to vaccinate calves for BRD1.

Unique among available BRDC vaccines, PrimeLine IN5 has been shown to be effective against mortality caused by M. haemolytica. In clinical trials, animals vaccinated with the product had significantly (P<0.0001) lower lung lesion scores than controls after being challenged, the median being 7% compared to a control group score of 36%2.

The vaccine is available in both 10- and 50-dose vials. To administer, aseptically rehydrate the freeze-dried vaccine with the sterile diluent provided, shake well, and administer 2 mL intranasally (IN) using a cannula in a single nostril. Healthy cattle should be vaccinated a minimum of 14 days prior to weaning, shipping or exposure to stress or infectious conditions.

The presence of maternal antibody is known to interfere with the development of active immunity in cattle, and additional boosters will be required in most young animals. For advice on revaccination frequency, consult your veterinarian.

White drench dewormer

Norbrook has announced the launch of Defendazole™ (fenbendazole), the first generic white drench dewormer to receive FDA approval. Defendazole is bioequivalent to and delivers the same safety and efficacy as Safe-Guard® (fenbendazole) oral suspension, providing a reliable, efficacious and cost-effective solution for treating and controlling multiple species of internal parasites that reduce feed efficiency, health and performance in beef and dairy cattle.

Defendazole

Defendazole treats and controls many of the lungworms, stomach worms and intestinal worms most commonly associated with economic loss in beef and dairy cattle.

Internal parasites negatively affect overall cattle health, causing impaired immune response, decreased weaning weights, reduced fertility and decreased milk production.

Supporting Norbrook’s commitment to maximizing producer gains, Defendazole is available in a standard 1-liter (L) container and a convenient, gravity-fed 5-L container that can be hung on the chute, minimizing product waste. Five liters of Defendazole treats 32% more head of equivalent-weight cattle per container, or 52,000 more pounds of body weight, than 1 gallon of Safe-Guard oral suspension.

Defendazole is now available where you purchase animal health products. For more information, contact your veterinarian or animal health supplier or visit the website.

Compact track loader

The Kubota Tractor Corp. has introduced the all-new SVL110-3 compact track loader, engineered to power through the toughest construction, landscaping, and land clearing jobs with confidence and control. Delivering high-level performance, exceptional auxiliary flow capacity, and innovative operator-focused technology, the SVL110-3 sets a new standard for the compact track loader category.

The model delivers exceptional performance with 112.7 gross hp, increased torque compared to previous models in the series at 279.8 pounds (lb.) per foot, and a 3,700-lb. rated operating capacity. It features 45 GPM of auxiliary flow while operating with the same traveling speed and compact footprint as its predecessor, the SVL97-3. This substantial increase in auxiliary capacity enables contractors to operate high-demand attachments like trenchers, cold planers, and skid cutters at full performance without compromise.

Its proprietary Auxiliary Performance System (APS) is engineered to reduce and eliminate machine stalling and downtime when operating high-demand attachments. Unlike traditional anti-stall systems that respond by dropping engine RPM, APS intelligently maintains optimal engine RPM while dynamically distributing hydraulic power between machine travel and attachment functions. This proactive technology protects machine integrity, maximizes productivity, and transforms how contractors toggle between applications — delivering more work in less time.

Standard features include a one-piece cab design with a high-back seat for all-day comfort and a large LCD screen with a real-time gauge display that includes a heat management monitor to track oil and coolant temperatures, extends machine uptime, and extending component life. A newly enhanced swing-out radiator design further demonstrates Kubota’s commitment to reducing downtime: contractors can now access the radiator without tools, significantly cutting daily maintenance checks and service time. Travel speeds of 5.5 and 8.4 mph at low and high range, respectively, maintain the track loader’s maneuverability while operating at full power.

The SVL110-3 will be available at select Kubota dealers beginning April 2026. For more information or to find an authorized Kubota dealer, visit the website.
