This month’s edition of “Gizmos & Gadgets” features a Merck Animal Health pour-on solution to control New World screwworm, a Purina Animal Health stress lick tub, a CAT excavator and an InnerPlant soybean-monitoring platform.
Pour-on product to combat screwworms and fever ticks
Merck Animal Health announces the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted conditional approval for Exzolt™ Cattle-CA1, the newest class of parasiticides known as isoxazolines. The pour-on solution is effective for the prevention and treatment of infestations caused by New World screwworm (Cochliomyia hominivorax) larvae (myiasis). It is also conditionally approved for the treatment and control of cattle fever tick (Rhipicephalus microplus).
Exzolt Cattle-CA1
The pour-on delivers the active ingredient fluralaner to act systemically against infestations. It is approved for use in beef cattle 2 months of age and older, and in replacement dairy heifers under 20 months. It is not approved for use in bulls intended for breeding (1 year of age and older), dairy calves and veal calves. There is a 98-day meat withdrawal period.

Cattle stress lick tub
Purina Stress Tub 2.0 is a next-generation, free-choice supplement designed to help cattle during times of stress. It promotes consistent intake, supports overall health and helps improve cattle performance.
The tub is a highly palatable molasses-based supplement that entices cattle to taste. This tub continues to provide essential nutrients, along with three new ingredient technologies, to help support the immune system and help cattle handle stress from weaning, transport or new environments.
This tub product can be an efficient feed form for those facing time and labor constraints. It contains the recommended rate of Zinpro ProPath® 4 and Kemin KemTrace® Chromium. Formulated with Zinpro Performance Minerals, a combination of zinc, manganese, copper and cobalt provides highly bioavailable trace minerals to support the immune system.

Heavy-duty undercarriage excavator
Delivering powerful performance, the Cat 325 Excavator features easy-to-use standard technology like Cat Grade with 2D, Grade Assist, Lift Assist and Payload to help boost productivity by allowing operators to work accurately, efficiently and quickly. A long, heavy-duty undercarriage with oversized 203-mm (8-inch) track pitch delivers outstanding stability and durability in harsh, uneven ground conditions, including site preparation, land clearing and forestry. Equipping the 325 with the optional blade simplifies backfilling and helps keep the machine leveled when working on slopes.
Featuring a 7.5-ton counterweight, the new configuration enhances balance and control even when equipped with attachments like a blade, variable-angle boom (VAB), heavy-duty stick, bucket thumbs or quick coupler. The new configuration can be fitted with either Reach or VAB fronts, with or without a blade, and comes with a thumb-ready stick and quick coupler circuit preinstalled from the factory, reducing the need for aftermarket modifications.

Soybean plant health-monitoring system
InnerPlant, a seed technology company, introduces CropVoice™. This first-of-its-kind insights platform is powered by a network of plots featuring InnerSoy™ — a soybean engineered to signal when under attack from fungus — and gives farmers and agronomists access to stress signals directly from plants.
CropVoice signals are tied to the plant’s genetic response to stress, which are detectable four to six weeks before stress is detectable by other scouting methods. This early warning enables farmers to spray with confidence and protect yields.
Benefits from the CropVoice network include:
- Earliest warning — signals are tied to plants’ physiological responses rather than gathered externally by synthetic sensors and alert farmers to stress weeks before detection is possible by other scouting methods.
- Most sensors — each plant in a sentinel plot functions as a biological sensor, giving millions of points of data at a much lower cost to deploy.
