Downey Ranch cattle

Downey Ranch has a simple mission statement: “Never wreck anybody’s cow herd.” The Wamego, Kan., operation says they won’t sell anything they wouldn’t use themselves.

“We run our operation with a sharp pencil, and we ask a lot of our cows,” Downey says.

“We consider the paramount trait to be fertility under range conditions, with the convenience traits of structure, udder quality and longevity to be the foundation on which we won’t compromise,” Downey says.

Downey Ranch can understand commercial ranchers’ needs, because they, too, are commercial cattle producers. They strive to treat people right; do what they say they’re going to do; and stand behind their stock, with a three-year feet and semen guarantee and a reputation to uphold. Eighty percent of their bulls go to repeat customers every year, and every fenceline neighbor has purchased a bull from the operation.

The ranch will host a bull sale in the fall, and will offer 60 commercial bred heifers to calve in the spring of 2027. To find out more, visit www.downeyranch.com.
