At Dalebanks Angus, practicality, profitability and genetics are more than just marketing buzz words. Those points drive nearly every selection and management decision made on the family ranch in Eureka, Kan.
The Perrier family believes that if they’re not considering the practicality and profitability of each part of their production model, then they’re likely costing their customers in the long term.
“We have a diverse set of customers, but they expect genetics that do it all,” says Matt Perrier. “[They want] individuals that calve unassisted, grow fast, grade well and leave docile, fertile, functional females to carry their herds into the future.”
Since Matt’s great-grandfather Bert Barrier brought the first Angus to Dalebanks in 1904, the mission has been to produce genetics that add profit to the beef community. The team at Dalebanks believes that

Angus cattle are exceptional in the traits that make money: reproductive efficiency, performance and end-product merit. Dalebanks strives to produce bulls that excel in all these traits, simultaneously.
While this may not always result in one animal that is elite for one trait, the Perrier family believes that a volume of balanced-trait, sound bulls and females is what enables their customers — and therefore their own family — to achieve long-term profitability.
“Yes, we strive to produce the best genetics available, but the animals themselves have to thrive on forage to actually produce the next generation each year,” Matt adds.
Dalebanks hosts an annual production sale the Saturday before Thanksgiving each fall northwest of Eureka. In addition, the family markets bulls and females private treaty each spring.
