The National Junior Angus Association (NJAA) has members across the United States, young cattlemen and women dedicated to furthering The Business Breed for generations to come.

Kipton Thummel grew up not too far from the American Angus Association headquarters in Saint Joseph, Mo.

Although his first National Junior Angus Show (NJAS) was just two years ago at the 2024 show in Madison, Wis., Thummel is already finding success in the national ring. He exhibited the reserve grand champion bred and owned female in the phenotype and genotype show at the Showdown in Madtown, an accomplishment many breeders hope to achieve.

Thummel says his favorite NJAS was the 2025 show in Tulsa, Okla.

“I made it to the backdrop three times and won some fancy belts,” he explains.

When he’s not earning new banners in the ring, Thummel says his favorite contest to participate in is quiz bowl. Teams of four people put their Angus knowledge to the test in a written exam, followed by a verbal round where teams go head to head.
