Building a Community
There’s a certain magic that happens when people gather around cattle.

I have early memories of crisp sale-day mornings trailing behind my parents from pen to pen with a sale book in hand. We wouldn’t get too far at the sale before my dad would strike up a conversation with an old friend as if no time had passed. These production sales are more than business, they are reunions.
A few years later I found myself in the stalls at junior nationals passing time between contests and shows with kids my age. We came from different states and different walks of life, but our shared love of cattle was the foundation for lifelong friendships.
It’s the sale days, the phone calls for advice, swapping stories over tailgates, the families who bond spending a week’s “vacation” at a cattle show — these shared experiences are the threads that bind the Angus community.
When we say, “Angus, Always,” we are honoring this tradition of the Angus breed and the countless ways these animals have brought people together through familiar challenges, triumphs and purpose.
In this issue of the Angus Journal, you’ll find stories of people who have built lives anchored in the Angus breed — some who found stability, discovered opportunity and took unexpected paths.
The power of the Angus community lies in the people: mentors, friends, neighbors. And that will carry this breed forward.
