Quiet Workers
Grit and purpose in the the beef industry.

Every four years, the world gathers to watch elite athletes compete on snow and ice. The Olympic Winter Games™ are a celebration of precision, speed, strength and dedication to excellence. But behind every medal-winning performance are thousands of hours we don’t see. Early morning training, drills to build muscle memory, small victories, the failures and quiet discipline — it’s the unseen work that matters most to get competitors on the podium.
It struck me recently how much that mirrors the cattle industry. The most important work often happens quietly, far from view. Nothing embodies that more than the Angus cow.
Over the decades she has been steady, adapting to what breeders ask of her, while keeping true to her strength in maternal instincts, fertility, efficiency and longevity. Her contributions show up in progeny that bring premiums, passing on traits to shape a successful herd.
In this issue, Heart of the Herd, we honor the quiet work the Angus cow does day in and day out, and the Angus breeders who steward her qualities driving the breed forward.
As the champion of the pasture, the Angus cow reminds us excellence is built long before the world takes notice.
