Election Time
One of several benefits to being an active member of the American Angus Association is the ability to take part in the governing process.

This includes being an eligible voting member and the opportunity to serve as a delegate, alternate delegate or board member.
Since the start of the American Angus Association in 1883, there has been a need to elect leadership for the guidance and governance of the Association as well as the review and upkeep of the bylaws. This is done at the annual Convention of Delegates, which is now hosted in conjunction with the Angus Convention each November. The election of members to serve as delegates to represent the membership at the annual meeting is a time-honored tradition that came to fruition with the end of proxy voting in 1924.
Election of Delegates
Each year, eligible voting members in the same state or district can nominate or be nominated to serve as a delegate. This year, the nomination period closed on June 19, 2026. Eligible voting members then vote to elect the final slate of delegates through a ballot process.
Every qualified nominee is included on a state/district ballot in order of date received. 2026 ballots will be mailed July 17 and will include an online voting option. Ballots must be received by 4:30 p.m. CDT, Tuesday, Aug. 18, to be counted.
The counting of ballots is done by staff along with two election observers approved by the Board of Directors of the American Angus Association. The observers serve a two-year term. After the ballots are tabulated, the final delegate list then gets published on our website along with an email for either being a delegate or an alternate delegate.
The procedures for the Election of Delegates are set forth in the bylaws of the American Angus Association in Article III Convention of Delegates, Section 3.8 Election of Delegates. The bylaws can be found in the “Rules and Forms” section of the Breeder’s Reference Guide, which is available in the Angus.org Member Center.
During the Convention of Delegates, voting delegates are asked to evaluate any proposed amendments to Association bylaws and elect members to the Board of Directors. This is described within the Breeder’s Reference Guide under Article III Section 3.1
I encourage everyone who is vested in the Angus breed to attend this year’s 143rd Annual Convention of Delegates as part of Angus Convention, Nov. 13-16, in Louisville, Ky. The events serve as a place for Angus fellowship and learning. The Association staff works year-round to bring together educational sessions and events that support Angus breeders’ and the breed’s continued success. The best part is that you do not need to be a delegate or even a member to attend. Angus Convention is open to all interested in the Angus breed.
Registration for Angus Convention opens Aug. 1 at www.AngusConvention.com. Please watch for updates in the Angus Journal and on Angus.org.
