Don’t Be Unfindable
Why a website should anchor your digital presence.

I’m somewhat of a professional stalker. But please, let me explain.
As a journalist, sometimes we’re called on to take little bits of information and uncover a story. A simple, “You should call so and so and see what they have going on at their ranch,” can turn into a full-length feature. Even when we have more knowledge going in, almost every writer I know does a little background research before they pick up a phone to schedule an interview.
One thing I’ve discovered in all my years of trying to find out more about specific Angus breeders is that some of you are pretty darn good at leaving virtually no digital footprint. While that may be intentional or even be a point of pride for some, it does cause a dilemma as well: What if your potential customers are trying to learn more about you and your business and they can’t find anything, either?
We at Angus Media always say having a web address is as important as having a farm address. It allows people to learn about your program and your history, preview your genetics, view your sale book and videos and find basics such as ranch location and contact information.
If Google doesn’t know you exist, it’s hard to step outside your regular network of buyers and grow your reach. We offer options for both a custom-built website and a single landing page to at least get your name out there.
Once you’ve established your online identity, it’s equally important that you keep that presence updated. Consider adding to or editing in these instances:
- Before and after sale day, so that you can keep details fresh of upcoming offerings or thanking people for their support.
- When you have family or life changes, like children coming back to the ranch or marriages and births.
- Key points in your year, such as calving, breeding and weaning are good times to get fresh pictures and new content.
- When you add a new enterprise or marketing focus, this is a good chance to provide more information.
- If your contact information or social platforms change.
Even with all the new ways to reach customers these days, a website is still the foundation of your digital strategy. It’s a great way to get started if you’re non-existent online today, or to continue to build your brand if you have a site that just needs some TLC.
In the end, you just want to be easy for cattlemen to find and get to know you, without requiring extra sleuthing on their part
No website? No problem.
The Angus Media team can custom build a brand-new website or offer a redesign of your previous one. If you’re ready for a website and want it completed quickly, having your content prepared will make the process smoother.
Gather the following for a quick start:
- A basic idea of what you’d like to include on your site, such as a welcome page, your family story, about your herd, or other info.
- Style elements, such as logos or brands you use, colors and textures you like, and other website references.
- Photos of you, your ranch and your cattle.
- Contact information.
