Calling All Delegates

Represent your state and play a role in the selection of the next Angus leadership.

One of several benefits to being an active member of the American Angus Association is being able to serve as a delegate for your state for the election of leadership and have a voice in the way business is conducted at the Annual Convention of Delegates for the American Angus Association. The delegate election is a time-honored tradition that stems from major changes that were led by members from 1923-1925 to ultimately end the proxy voting system. With a few minor changes along the way, it has become known as the tried-and-true system we enjoy each year.

The delegate nomination period closed June 5, 2025, and I hope by now everyone has made their nominations as we are on to the next phase of the election process.

Following the close of the nomination period, every qualified nominee will be included on a state/district ballot in order of date received. Ballots will be mailed to the eligible voting members July 5 to vote for the final slate of state/district delegates. Just like last year, an online option will be available for delegate voting. The ballots will be due by Aug. 4, 2025, by 4:30 CDT.

The counting of ballots will be done after the last day to receive ballots. The counting of ballots is done by the staff of the American Angus Association along with two election observers approved by the Board of Directors of the American Angus Association. The observers serve a two-year term. The delegate list then gets published on our website along with a congratulations email for either being a delegate or an alternate delegate.

The nomination procedures are set forth in the bylaws of the American Angus Association in Article III Convention of Delegates, Section 3.7 Nomination of Delegates. The bylaws can be found in the Breeder’s Reference Guide in the “Rules and Forms” section. Refer to www.angus.org to access the complete bylaws of the American Angus Association.

Each year our voting delegation is scheduled to be convened at the Annual Meeting, and this year we will be celebrating our 142nd Annual Convention of Delegates at the Angus Convention in Kansas City, Mo., Nov. 2, 2025.

The voting delegates are asked to evaluate any proposed amendments to American Angus Association bylaws and elect Association leadership. This is described within the Breeder’s Reference Guide under Article III Section 3.1, which states, “In lieu of meetings of the members, the Association shall have Conventions of Delegates, with such delegates to be chosen in accordance with these Bylaws by a representative of each Active Life Member and Active Regular Member.”

Angus Convention 2025 - Kansas City, MO

I encourage everyone who is vested in the Angus breed to attend the Annual Convention. The Convention serves as a place for learning and Angus fellowship. The staff of the American Angus Association works year-round on this great event, planning everything from keynote speakers to the educational curriculum offered to the membership.

The best part is you do not need to be a delegate or even a member to attend. Anyone interested in the Angus breed or who is a buyer of Angus genetics is encouraged to attend. The opportunities are endless for your success in the Angus breed.

The Convention offers an opportunity to engage with staff one on one to ask questions and provide direction for the organization that will ensure your operation’s success for the future. You will also have access to industry allies that provide services to the members of the American Angus Association.

Registration for the Angus Convention will start Aug. 1 at www.AngusConvention.com. Please watch for updates in the Angus Journal and at www.angus.org
