Steele was instrumental in the formation of the Virginia Beef Cattle Improvement Association in 1955, and spearheaded the first performance bull test at Culpeper, Va., in 1957. He served three years on the Certified Angus Beef LLC Board, and was elected to the American Angus Association Board of Directors serving as president from 1994-1995.
