Barton bred, managed, promoted and marketed Angus cattle in west-central Oklahoma. Barton served as a regional manager for the American Angus Association from 1967 to 1992. He was also a county Extension agent, and a fieldman for the Kansas Angus Association, the Breeders Gazette and the Western Livestock Journal.
