Champions named at 2024 National Junior Angus Show
Madison, Wis., hosted 675 Angus juniors and their families who traveled to compete in the 2024 National Junior Angus Show (NJAS) at the Alliant Energy Center from June 30 to July 6.
National Junior Angus Association (NJAA) members took part in the "Showdown in Madtown” as they exhibited 963 entries during the weeklong event that included more than a dozen educational contests in addition to the cattle show.
Lydell Meier, Clinton, Tenn., judged owned heifers; Holly Gamble Meier, Clinton, Tenn., assisted in judging 549 owned heifers; Tim Fitzgerald, Aldie, Va., judged the 191 bred-and-owned heifers, 40 bred-and-owned bulls and 10 bred-and-owned and 14 owned cow-calf pairs; Brian Fitzgerald, Kansas City, Mo., assisted in judging the bred-and-owned heifers and bulls, and bred-and-owned and owned cow-calf pairs; Chris Effling, Highmore, S.D., judged the 74 steers; and Alan Miller, Gridley, Ill., judged the 85 phenotype and genotype heifers and 16 phenotype and genotype bulls.
Mercedes Ferree, Sullivan, Ind., led the grand champion owned female. Seldom Rest Cassandra 3009 is a January 2023 daughter of KR Casino 6243 and first won junior champion – division 5.
Sloane Curtin, Oxford, Iowa, led the reserve grand champion owned female. Kruse’s Annie Lu 9273 is a March 2023 daughter of BNWZ Dignity 8017 and first won junior
champion – division 3.
KayLee Langford, Breckenridge, Texas, won third place overall champion owned female with UDE Forever Lady 3037. She is the May 2023 daughter of KR Casino 6243 and first claimed intermediate champion – division 2.
Ashton Dillow, Villa Ridge, Ill., led the fourth place overall champion owned female. PVF Proven Queen 3025 is the February 2023 daughter of PVF Marvel 9185 and first claimed junior champion – division 4.
Hayden Hahn, Rocky Ridge, Md., captured fifth place overall champion owned female with SCC CB Sandy 341. She is the April 2023 daughter of SCC SCH 24 Karat 838 and first claimed junior champion – division 1.
Collin Deatsman, Leesburg, Ind., received the Robert and Marillyn Schultz Angus Scholarship and captured grand champion bred-and-owned female honors with Deatsman SA Eventress 123-62. The September 2022 daughter of SCC SCH 24 Karat 838 first won senior champion.
Suter Clark, Gretna, Va., led the reserve grand champion bred-and-owned female, Clarkboys Cassandra 3020. The February 2023 daughter of KR Casino 6243 was first named early junior champion.
Sloane Curtin won third place overall champion bred-and-owned female with Curtins Sheryl 3ET. She is the April 2023 daughter of BNWZ Dignity 8017 and first claimed late junior champion.
Jack Conley, Sulphur, Okla., led the fourth place overall champion bred-and-owned female. Conley Sandy 3712 is the August 2023 daughter of Conley A1 and first claimed late summer champion.
Adam Miller, Gridley, Ill., captured fifth place overall champion bred-and-owned champion female with PVF Blackbird 3152. She is the September 2023 daughter of STAG Good Times 201 ET and first claimed early senior calf champion.
Tucker Bayer, Ringle, Wis., won grand champion bred-and-owned bull honors with CLF Northstar 80L. The April 2023 son of SAV Stardom 8131 first won junior champion.
Jayce Dickerson, Paradise, Kan., led the reserve grand champion bred-and-owned bull. Bar S Dueces 3519 is a March 2023 son of Malsons Insight 96H and was first named reserve junior champion.
Jayce Dickerson also showed the grand champion owned cow-calf pair. RW Saras Dream 207 is a March 2022 daughter of PVF Blacklist 7077, and first topped the young pair division. A March 2024 bull calf sired by Malsons Insight 96H completed the winning duo.
Cora Habein, Bend, Ore., led the reserve grand champion owned cow-calf pair. RW Saras Dream 211 is a May 2022 daughter of BRDG Mahogany Prime 904B. A May 2024 son of KR Cadillac Ranch is at side. The pair first won reserve champion young pair.
Anne Dameron, Towanda, Ill., received the Joel Harrison Memorial Angus Scholarship and claimed grand champion bred-and-owned cow-calf pair with Dameron C-5 Lucy 2242, a June 2022 daughter of PVF Insight 0129. An April 2024 heifer calf sired by Bear Mtn Bullet Proof was at side. The duo first won champion young pair.
Reese Anderson, Chrisman, Ill., captured reserve grand champion bred-and-owned cow-calf pair with DDA Northern Miss 2211. The April 2022 daughter of PVF Blacklist 7077 had a March 2024 son of Barstow Cash at side. They first won reserve champion young pair.
Christian Fischer, Freeport, Ill., earned grand champion steer honors with Curtins George 15. He is the March 2023 son of ROSE MC Encore 0463.
Christian Fischer also claimed reserve grand champion steer with Coor R2C Good Vibes 309. He is an April 2023 son of STAG Good Times 201 ET.
Conner Suits, Rantoul, Ill., claimed bred-and owned grand champion steer with Suits Marvel 3303. He is a March 2023 son of PVF Marvel 9185.
Suter Clark earned reserve grand champion bred-and-owned steer with Clarkboys Copper Penny. He is a January 2023 son of Silveiras Forbes 8088.
Alli Perry, Fayetteville, Tenn., showed the grand champion owned female in phenotype and genotype portion of show. Vintage Fanny 2651 is the September 2022 daughter of Beal Breakthrough and first won owned division 4 champion.
Brooke Davis, Belmont, Wis., led the reserve grand champion owned female in the phenotype and genotype portion of the show. Marda Asti 322 is the December 2022
daughter of Crouch Congress. She first claimed reserve owned division 4 champion.
Gage Long, Vinita, Okla., showed the grand champion bred-and-owned female in phenotype and genotype portion of the show. Long Lady 306 is the February 2023 daughter of Myers Fair-N-Square M39 and first won owned and bred-and-owned division 3 champion.
Kipton Thummel, Ravenwood, Mo., led the reserve grand champion bred-and-owned female in the phenotype and genotype portion of the show. TA Lass 36 is the September 2023
daughter of Linz Exemplify 71124. She first claimed bred-and-owned division 1 champion.
Zayda Hofing, Coatesville, Ind., showed the grand champion bred-and-owned bull in phenotype and genotype portion of the show. Car Don Bad Romance 180 is the February 2023 son of HPCA Veracious and first won division 3 champion.
Callie Jensen, Plainfield, Iowa, led the reserve grand champion bred-and-owned bull in the phenotype and genotype portion of the show. Jensen Lightning 3107 FAF is the September 2023 son of Dameron Viroqua. He first claimed division 1 champion.
