The road to success made a major stop in Tulsa as a group of ambitious young cattlemen and women were awarded scholarships from the Angus Foundation during the 2025 National Junior Angus Show (NJAS). Held in the heart of Route 66, this year’s NJAS celebrated more than just showring achievements; it also spotlighted the drive, dedication, and dreams of Angus youth across the country.
“I was so grateful to be a scholarship recipient this year,” said Audrey Curtain, a recipient of the Richard L. Spader Scholarship and the Stan J. Prox LEAD Award. “I was very excited to have won a LEAD award and scholarship from the Stan Prox family because the Angus conferences are my favorite Angus events.”
As Curtain enters her sophomore year at Butler Community College, this scholarship will help her cover out-of-state tuition costs.
“I’m extremely grateful to have the support to continue chasing opportunities,” Curtain said. “I hope to give back to Angus in the future because it has allowed me to meet so many people and pursue experiences I wouldn’t have been able to otherwise.”
Since 1998, the Angus Foundation has awarded nearly $5 million in undergraduate and graduate scholarships.
“The Angus Foundation is thankful for our donors who graciously give to support our young leaders and their future endeavors,” said Jaclyn Boester, Angus Foundation executive director. “We’re proud to be able to make an impact on so many of our outstanding Angus leaders.”
That impact is clearly felt by juniors like Addie Haverkamp of Kansas, recipient of the Angus Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship, who emphasized the value of donor support.
“I could never say thank you enough to the Angus Foundation donors,” Haverkamp said. “Their support of Angus youth and Angus cattle is what makes scholarships like these possible and supports many juniors’ education. They play such a vital role in the organization.”
That sentiment is echoed by Curtain who has experienced firsthand the opportunities made possible through Foundation support.
“I would tell Angus Foundation donors thank you for funding and believing in the future of our breed,” Curtain said. “Because of funding, juniors have so many opportunities that wouldn’t be possible without the support we have.”
She continued, “I have been able to travel coast-to-coast for Angus conferences with help from my LEAD scholarship funding. It’s also encouraging to know that our mentors and people we look up to have faith in our abilities to carry on our breed’s reputation.”
Reflecting on her experience within the National Junior Angus Association, she added, “NJAA has shaped me in so many ways, and I am forever thankful I was born into this industry. I have made lifelong friendships within the Angus breed and networked with people all across the country.”
