Angus genetics showcased at 2024 Cattlemen’s Congress Pen & Carload Show

            Angus producers competed for top honors during the 2024 Cattlemen’s Congress Angus Pen & Carload Show, Jan. 5 in Oklahoma City, Okla. Four carloads and nine pens-of-three were showcased.

            Matt Perrier, Eureka, Kan.; David Dal Porto, Anselmo, Neb.; and Brian McCulloh, Viroqua, Wis., evaluated the bulls and heifers before selecting champions.

            Express Angus Ranches, Yukon, Okla., claimed grand champion carload, with eight September and October 2022 bulls sired by G A R Home Town, DB Iconic G95, BJ Surpass, SITZ Incentive 704H, EXAR Grenade 9152B and SG Salvation. The group weighed an average of 1,690 pounds and posted an average scrotal circumference of 39.6 centimeters. The bulls first claimed senior calf champion.

            Express Angus Ranches, Yukon, Okla., exhibited the reserve grand champion carload, with eight January 2023 bulls sired by EXAR Cover The Bases 0819B, BJ Surpass, DB Iconic G95, EXAR Stock Fund 9097B, LAR Man In Black and EXAR Perfecto 1124B. The bulls posted an average weight of 1,399 pounds and an average scrotal circumference of 35.5 centimeters. The bulls first claimed junior calf champion.

            Boyd Beef Cattle, May’s Lick, Ky., showcased the grand champion pen of three bulls with January 2023 sons of SG Salvation. The trio posted an average weight of 1,334 pounds and an average scrotal circumference of 35.7 centimeters. The bulls first won early calf champion.

            Express Angus Ranches, Yukon, Okla., captured the reserve grand champion pen of three bulls after first claiming reserve early calf champion. The January 2023 sons of EXAR Cover the Bases 0819B and EXAR Perfecto 1124B posted an average weight of 1,425 pounds and an average scrotal circumference of 36.3 centimeters.

            Cunningham Ranch, Amber, Okla., captured the grand champion pen of three heifers. February 2023 daughters of EXAR Guru 8719B, EXAR Stock Fund 9097B and EXAR Raliant 0783B posted an average weight of 1,037 pounds.

            Linz Heritage Angus, Byars, Okla., captured the reserve grand champion pen of three heifers. The November 2022 daughters of Connealy Vindicate 0366, Linz Exemplify 71124 and LAR Men In Black posted an average weight of 1,054 pounds.
