Angus Champions Paraded at 2023 Western National Angus Futurity
One hundred and forty-eight entries were shown at the 2023 Western National Angus Futurity (WNAF) Super Point Roll of Victory (ROV) Angus Show, April 8 in Reno, Nev. Matt Copeland, Amistad, N.M., evaluated the 121 females, 23 bulls and four cow-calf pairs before selecting champions at the 70th WNAF.
UDE Queen Ruth 2001 captured grand champion female for KayLee Langford, Breckenridge, Texas. The January 2022 daughter of KR Casino 6243 first won junior calf champion-division 3.
Brody Leo, Snelling, Calif., exhibited the reserve grand champion female, Colburn Saras Dream 1985. The October 2021 daughter of Silveiras Style 9303 first won senior calf champion.
Lazy JB Ego 1428 claimed the grand champion bull title. C 5 Angus, Ancona, Ill.; Dameron Angus Farm, Lexington, Ill.; and Lazy JB Angus, Montrose, Colo., own the April 2021 son of Lazy JB Edge 8745 that first claimed junior champion.
Bayler Hurlbut, Raymond, S.D., owns the reserve grand champion bull that first won junior calf champion. Hurlbuts The Rock 2270 is the April 2022 son of SCC SCH 24 Karat 838.
McCoy Blackbird 9961-5523 won grand champion cow-calf pair. Taylor Olson, La Grande, Ore., owns the September 2019 daughter of Leachman Saugahatchee 3000C. A September 2022 heifer calf sired by Gateway Follow Me F163 completes the winning pair.
Jonwyn Ayres, Powers, Ore., owns the reserve grand champion cow-calf pair. Ayres Adele Eline 6480 is the May 2020 daughter of J&J Weigh Up 294. An August 2022 heifer calf sired by Ayres Montana Upgrade 248 is at side.
