Angus Genetics Showcased at 2022 National Western Angus Carload & Pen Show

 

            Angus producers competed for top honors during the 2022 National Western Stock Show (NWSS) Angus Carload & Pen Show, Jan. 18 in Denver, Colo. One carload and 18 pens-of-three were showcased in the Yards during the 115th NWSS.

            John Grimes, Hillsboro, Ohio; Steven Mohnen, White Lake, S.D.; and Andrew Musgrave, Pittsfield, Ill., evaluated the bulls and heifers before selecting champions.

            Krebs Ranch, Gordon, Neb., claimed grand champion carload, with 10 January and February 2021 bulls and are sired by Koupals B&B Detail 7070, KR Rally, KR Mojo 8520, Barstow Power On, Deer Valley Growth Fund and Crawford Guarantee 9137. The group weighed an average of 1,318 pounds and posted an average scrotal circumference of 37.2 centimeters.

            Chestnut Angus Farm, Pipestone, Minn., showcased the grand champion pen of three bulls with January 2021 sons of Square B Atlantis 8060 and EG Eyes Onyou. The trio posted an average weight of 1,357 pounds and an average scrotal circumference of 42.2 centimeters. The bulls first won early calf champion.

            Krebs Ranch, Gordon, Neb., captured the reserve grand champion pen of three bulls after first claiming reserve early calf champion. The January and February 2021 sons of KR Quality 8525 and 7/S Splash 415 posted an average weight of 1,363 pounds and an average scrotal circumference of 37.3 centimeters.

            Chestnut Angus Farm showcased the grand champion pen of three heifers. The January 2021 daughters of Chestnut Wagon Boss 449 and Deer Valley Growth Fund posted an average weight of 1,058 pounds.

Chestnut Angus Farm also captured the reserve grand champion pen of three heifers with January and February 2021 daughters of Merit Sting 7047E and VZR Diamond Jack 1905. The trio posted an average weight of 937 pounds.
