Angus genetics showcased at 2022 Cattlemen’s Congress Carload & Pen Show

 

            Angus producers competed for top honors during the 2022 Cattlemen’s Congress Angus Carload & Pen Show, Jan. 7 in Oklahoma City, Okla. Three carloads and 14 pens-of-three were showcased.

            John Pfeiffer, Mulhall, Okla.; Chris Styles, Brentford, S.D.; and Kevin Yon, Ridge Spring, S.C., evaluated the bulls and heifers before selecting champions.

            Express Angus Ranches, Yukon, Okla., claimed grand champion carload, with eight January 2021 bulls sired by EXAR Stock Fund 9097B, EXAR Jet Fuel 9706B, EXAR Amplify 8909B and EXAR Fundamental 9186B. The group weighed an average of 1,470 pounds and posted an average scrotal circumference of 38.0 centimeters.

            Express Angus Ranches exhibited the reserve grand champion carload with eight January 2021 bulls sired by EXAR Jet Fuel 9706B, EXAR Guru 8719B, EXAR Fundamental 9186B, EXAR Grenade 9152B and Bar R Jet Black 5063. The bulls posted an average weight of 1,432 pounds and an average scrotal circumference of 38.9 centimeters.

            Conley Cattle, Sulphur, Okla., showcased the grand champion pen of three bulls with February and March 2021 sons of Conley South Point 8362 and Mill Brae Identified 4031. The trio posted an average weight of 1,143 pounds and an average scrotal circumference of 37.3 centimeters. The bulls first won late calf champion.

            Boyd Beef Cattle, May’s Lick, Ky., captured the reserve grand champion pen of three bulls after first claiming early calf champion. The January and February 2021 sons of KG Justified 3023; GAR Home Town and Connealy Confidence Plus posted an average weight of 1,258 pounds and an average scrotal circumference of 36.7 centimeters.

            Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Okla., captured the grand champion pen of three heifers. The January 2021 daughters of Musgrave 316 Stunner and Basin Payweight Plus 6048 posted an average weight of 1,007 pounds.
