Deadline Nearing for 2013 LEAD Conference

Early registration for the annual youth leadership conference ends June 15.

National Junior Angus Association (NJAA) members are gearing up for the annual Leaders Engaged in Angus Development (LEAD) conference, held Aug. 1- 4 in New Orleans, La. Members between ages of 14-21 are encouraged to sign up for this summer’s event themed “Cajun Livin’ Angus Leadin’.”

“The weekend will be full of surprises,” says Robin Ruff, American Angus Association® director of junior activities. “The NJAA Board of Directors is working diligently to make LEAD one of the best events of the summer.”

Junior members will have the opportunity to take a guided swamp tour, learn about Louisiana’s sugar cane history at the Evergreen Plantation, visit 7L Farms and Land Company, take a ride down the Mississippi river on the historic Steamboat Natchez, and much more.

Space is limited, and the deadline to register early is quickly approaching. Members who register by June 15 will have a discounted price of $200. After June 15, the registration will go up to $225 and will be accepted based on space availability. The registration fee for adults, state advisors and chaperones is $250; no early registration deadline applies. To register, visit

For more information, contact the junior activities department at 816-383-5100. LEAD is funded by the Angus Foundation and is a program of the NJAA, which provides programs for nearly 7,000 members across the nation. A tentative schedule follows.

ANGUS MEANS BUSINESS. The American Angus Association is the nation’s largest beef breed organization, serving more than 25,000 members across the United States, Canada and several other countries. It’s home to an extensive breed registry that grows by nearly 300,000 animals each year. The Association also provides programs and services to farmers, ranchers and others who rely on Angus to produce quality genetics for the beef industry and quality beef for consumers.
