The life of John Matsushima tells an remarkable story of passion, research and international success. His upbringing in the cattle industry led him to pursue a career in cattle feeding after studying animal science at Colorado A&M. He impacted the global beef industry almost seven decades ago when he developed the steam-flake corn process. Matsushima’s research was ahead of his time and led to some of the most highly regarded research in feed efficiency in the nation.

Matsushima’s research has allowed him to travel the world. Due to his Japanese heritage and knowledge of the beef industry, he was once one of the leading connections of Japanese beef exports from the United States.
