Summer Interns at Work for Angus

Three college interns join the Angus team in St. Joseph, Mo.

Young agricultural professionals look forward to learning and growing at the American Angus Association® and Angus Productions Inc. (API) this summer.

Get to know Ellie Hoffschneider, the Association’s public relations and communications intern, Gabby Glenister the Association’s junior activities intern and Kelli Fulkerson, the API editorial intern.

Ellie Hoffschneider, Arlington, Neb., will assist the public relations department with writing press releases, taking photos, editing and designing Angus literature, promoting Angus events and working with social media.  Her role also involves attending the National Junior Angus Show (NJAS) in Louisville, Ky.

“Angus cattle have played an important role in my life, and I’m eager to see how this internship will allow my communications abilities to grow and develop,” says Hoffschneider, a senior at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) studying agricultural journalism.

On campus, Hoffschneider serves as the UNL Chapter President for National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA); UNL Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow Vice-President; and Husker Food Connection Publicity Chair.  Her family raises registered Angus cattle, and she is a past member of the National Junior Angus Association (NJAA) and Nebraska Junior Angus Association.

“Ellie’s passion for the beef industry and experience in writing, social media and event planning is a valuable asset to the public relations department this summer,” says Eric Grant, Association director of communications and public relations.  “She has an Angus background and extensive experience advocating for agriculture. We are excited to see what she will accomplish this summer.”

Gabby Glenister will connect with Angus youth in the junior activities department.  The Pulaski, N.Y., native will assist with National Junior Angus Association (NJAA) shows and events, and have an active role in planning and managing the NJAS and the Leaders Engaged in Angus Development (LEAD) Conference.

“This internship is a great chance for me to learn the ins and outs of the Angus Association, and I can’t wait to work with juniors to help them grow as leaders,” Glenister says.

Glenister is a recent graduate of State University of New York College of Agriculture and Technology in Cobleskill, N.Y., with her associate’s degree in animal science. In the fall, she is transferring to Iowa State University to pursue a degree in agriculture and life sciences education, with an emphasis in agriculture communications.  On her family’s New York farm, she raises Angus and Holstein cattle, and hogs.  The NJAA and New York Junior Angus Association have played an important role in her life for more than ten years.

“Gabby’s NJAA experience will be instrumental as she assists in the coordination of the NJAS and LEAD Conference,” says Robin Ruff, Association director of junior activities. “Having attended both events numerous times, she will be able to excel behind the scenes of the programs and provide exceptional support for our junior membership.”

API is pleased to welcome Kelli Fulkerson, Union City, Mich., as the summer intern in the editorial department. She will cover summer Angus events and assist with the print and digital editorial work.

"I am honored to work for API this summer, it is a dream-come-true to work for the Angus industry” says Fulkerson. “Through this internship, I hope to gain communications experience amongst some of the most highly respected individuals in the beef business."

Fulkerson grew up on a small cattle and diversified-crop farm in southwest Michigan.  She is a student at South Dakota State University, majoring in agricultural communications and animal science. Upon completion of her degrees she hopes to work in the field of agricultural communications.

“Kelli brings to the team a strong cattle background and a passion for communicating with and on behalf of cattlemen. Her enthusiasm is infectious, and we look forward to a very productive summer,” says Shauna Hermel, editor for API.

Her passion for agricultural communications derives from her experiences as a National Beef Ambassador, National Collegiate Agricultural Ambassador, Michigan FFA State Officer and various agricultural communication internships and organizations. She is also a former NJAA member.  Fulkerson’s experiences have enabled her to travel nationwide sharing the story of American agriculture.

The American Angus Association is the nation’s largest beef organization, serving nearly 30,000 members across the United States and Canada. It provides programs and services to farmers, ranchers and others who rely on the power of Angus to produce quality genetics for the beef industry and quality beef for consumers.
