Angus NWSS Coverage Available Online

Stay up-to-date on the latest from Angus events at the 2018 National Western Stock Show.

 

American Angus Association® members and livestock enthusiasts soon head to Denver for annual Angus events held in conjunction with the 2018 National Western Stock Show (NWSS) from Jan. 8 to 13. With 112 years of tradition, the NWSS is highly regarded as one of the most competitive livestock exhibitions of the year.

Angus activities begin Wednesday, Jan. 10, and continue through Saturday, Jan. 13. Use the resources listed below to stay up-to-date with the latest show results and news provided by the NWSS and the American Angus Association.

Showring competition begins with the Angus Bull Sale Show at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, in the Stadium Arena. A panel of three judges will evaluate the bulls using a composite system to establish a sale order. Judges are Art Butler, Bliss, Idaho; Sam Carter, Arthur, Nebraska; and Mike McGuire, Waverly, Alabama. Immediately after, the ROV Angus Bull Show is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. in Stadium Arena. Judges Chuck Brost, Larkspur, Colorado, and Tom Dalby, Cameron, Texas, will evaluate the ROV entries.

The Junior Angus Heifer Show begins at 8 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, in Stadium Arena. John Rayfield, Lubbock, Texas, will judge the junior show. The next day, ROV Angus Females enter the ring at 8 a.m., judged again by Brost and Dalby.

The NWSS Angus Pen and Carload Show takes place at 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13. The show begins with the bull carloads in the Livestock Center Auction Arena, followed by the Angus heifer pens and Angus bull pens. Joe Meyers, Harrodsburg, Kentucky; Justin Spickler, Glenfield, North Dakota; and TJ Curtin, Blue Mound, Illinois; will serve on the three-judge panel evaluating the group competitions.

Additional highlights include the National Western Angus Bull Sale scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 10, in Stadium Arena. Browse the NWSS Angus Bull Sale book online to read more about the more than 40 lots being sold. Immediately following the auction of the 2018 Angus Foundation Heifer Package, which starts at 5:30 p.m. MST, the NWSS Angus Bull Sale will begin. Joe Goggins, Billings, Montana, will serve as auctioneer.
