I Am Angus’ Broadcasts Thursday Night, Dec. 5

The program airs at 10 p.m. EST this Thursday on RFD-TV.

Produced entirely by the American Angus Association®, the upcoming I Am Angus® episode explores the roots of the Angus business — and reminds us where we come from. Tune in at 10 p.m. EST (9 p.m. CST) Thursday, Dec. 5, on RFD-TV.

“This I Am Angus takes us back to the generations who built the platform the agriculture industry stands on today,” says Eric Grant, Association public relations and communications director. “Each segment has a different perspective, from transportation to health to genetics, on how the industry we work for has changed.”

Featured in the Dec. 5 episode:

·               Don Greiman, Garner, Iowa, recounts the history of his family’s fifth-generation Angus operation in northern Iowa.

·               C.S. Fitzgerald, Raphine, Va., shares why he appreciates each new season on their farming operation, CSF Cattle Company.

·               The Poss Family, Scotia, Neb., run a diversified farming operation in central Nebraska and explains why they rely on the latest technology, including GeneSeek genomic testing, to improve their cattle genetics.

·               Bill Haw, Kansas City, Mo., describes the history of the Kansas City Stockyards and the Livestock Exchange Building, which was the region’s economic epicenter for many years.

·               Jackson Ray, Wetumka, Okla., and his dad, Brent, explain how preparing cattle for the National Junior Angus Show starts at home, with many dedicated hours working with the animals each day.

·               Dr. David Bechtol, Canyon, Texas, a pioneer in feedlot veterinary medicine, tells how he got his start in the business and how practices have changed over the years.

·               Dr. Dan Kniffen, assistant professor at Pennsylvania State University, believes that educating the next generation is the key to sustaining the cattle industry.

·               Bill Teel and Steve Greer, owners of the Golden Ox in Kansas City, Mo., share how the restaurant, which was built in 1949 by the Stockyard Company in the historic West Bottoms, has remained true to its history throughout the past 60 years.

·               Reasor’s grocery chain believes it’s important for those selling beef to know where it comes from. Jeff Reasor and Sam Buford of Buford Ranch, Welch, Okla., describe why the rancher-retailer relationship is a special one.

·               Bill Rishel owns Rishel Angus, North Platte, Neb., and says that by sustaining natural resources and caring for animals, ranchers are working together to feed the world.
