Angus Enthusiasts Enjoy Fun and Fellowship at 7th Annual Golf Tournament

The sun finally broke through the clouds to welcome Angus enthusiasts as they took to the greens during the 7th Annual Angus Foundation Golf Tournament at the Forest Ridge Golf Club in Broken Arrow, Okla.  “Supportive Angus breeders, allied industry interests and friends enabled us to have another successful golf tournament to raise funds for the Angus Foundation’s education, youth and research activities,” notes Angus Foundation President Milford Jenkins.  In total, this year’s tournament grossed $20,545 in proceeds to benefit the Angus breed.

Despite having to dodge puddles that remained from weeks of heavy rain, 66 participants enjoyed a morning of fun competition and camaraderie during this year’s tournament.  “Forest Ridge Golf Club was a wonderful venue for our tournament and everyone seemed to enjoy this fun Angus social event.  We were also delighted with the increased number of players in this year’s tournament and invite other Angus enthusiasts who golf to consider playing in next year’s tournament in Des Moines,” Jenkins says.

After an 18-hole tournament, players retired to the clubhouse for the awards luncheon where they were greeted with a delicious Certified Angus Beef® steak dinner, compliments of Lombardi Brothers Meats of Denver, Colo.  Generous sponsorships also allowed for the creation of three flights during this year’s tournament, with team prizes awarded to the top three teams in each flight.  Individual prizes were also awarded to participants.

Teams receiving awards in flight A included the first place team of Donnie Robertson, Yukon, Okla.; Chris McCutchen, Stillwater, Okla.; Dan Ellis, Laurel, Mont.; and John Widdowson, Lodgepole, Neb.  Receiving second place awards was the team of Casey Buzzard, and Jeff Creamer, both of Montrose, Colo.; Dick Rogen, Brandon, S.D.; and David Schrock, Sulphur, Okla.  Receiving third place in flight A was the team representing Golden Field Services.  Team members included, Brent Brewer, Henryetta, Okla.; Jeremy Nichols, Darren Cooper and Jeremy Vernon, all of Checotah, Okla.

First place prizes in the B flight were awarded to the team of P.J. Trowbridge, Ghent, N.Y.; Kyle Conley, Oklahoma City, Okla.; Corey Webber, Cameron, Texas; and Cody Sankey, Lansing, Mich.  Second place honors went to the team of Joe Treece, Clifton, Tenn.; Sonny Booth, Miami, Okla.; Andy Rest, Shepherd, Mont.; and Richard Dyar, Crossville, Ala.  Third place prizes in the B flight were awarded to the team of William Wing and Ben Buttelman, both of Brooksville, Fla.; Jennifer Svoboda, Sargent, Neb.; and Thomas Kemp, Bridgeport, Texas.

Flight C team awards went to the Michigan-based team of Pat Goheen, Deckerville, Mich.; Tim Ruggles, Kingston, Mich.; and Steve Thelen and Renee Thelen, both of Saline, Mich.  Second place prizes were awarded to the team representing Kinnett Angus Farms.  Team members included, Shane Kinnett, Meeker, Okla.; Zach Kinnett, Council Hill, Okla.; Keith Castner, Oklahoma City, Okla.; and James Thompson, Seminole, Okla.  Third place honors in flight C were awarded to the team representing Ohio Angus.  Team members included Wes Untied, Granville, Ohio; Doug Majors, Lancaster, Ohio; Tim Alexander, Sabina, Ohio; and Gene Mullett, Coshocton, Ohio.

In addition to team awards for the top nine teams, gift certificates to the Forest Ridge Golf Course gift shop were presented for the following:  closest to pin, Randy Mitteness, Ada, Minn.; longest drive, Casey Buzzard; and longest putt made, Steve Thelen.  Also, Trevor DeHaan, Taylor, Mo., received the youngest player award, while Sonny Booth received the oldest player award.  P.J. Trowbridge received the award for furthest distance traveled by a tournament participant.  In addition to specialty prizes, a door prize drawing provided participating junior Angus members the opportunity to win a new golf bag; Kable Ragsdale, Paris, Mo., won the bag.

The Angus Foundation was established in 1980 as a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization to support Angus education, youth and research.  To learn more about the Angus Foundation and the programs it supports, call the American Angus AssociationSM at 816-383-5100 or go to www.angusfoundation.org.
