National Western Angus Bull Sale Grosses $153,250
Cattlemen bought quality Angus bulls with confidence in Denver.
Angus breeders consigned 30 bulls to the 2019 National Western Angus Bull Sale on Jan. 16 at the National Western Stock Show (NWSS) in Denver. The annual event, which is the only sale hosted by the American Angus Association®, grossed $153,250 and averaged $5,108.
Prior to the sale, the group of bulls were judged by a three-person committee to make the sale order. The judges were: Lake Elliott, Adams, Tennessee; Joe Fischer, Sacramento, California; and Landi McFarland-Livingston, Ellston, Iowa.
The grand champion bull, WAF Collusion 703, was consigned by Weaver Angus Farms, Edwards, Illinois, and sold to Belle Point Ranch, Lavaca, Arkansas, for $6,000.
Andrew Hodges, Montague, Texas, consigned the reserve grand champion bull, DAJS AH Explorer 308. The bull was bought by Phillip Bodjanac for $6,000.
The top-selling bull, 2K Patriot 298, was consigned by 2K Cattle Enterprises, Glen Haven, Wisconsin. He was purchased for $13,000 by Shandar Angus, Payson, Utah.
Cattlemen bought Angus bulls in Denver with confidence, as all consignments in the sale were required to have Angus Herd Improvement Records® (AHIR®) performance information and a complete set of genomically enhanced expected progeny differences (EPDs). Each bull ranked in the top 50 percent of the breed for non-parent bulls for at least five of the EPDs and $Value Indexes that include calving ease direct (CED), birthweight (BW), weaning weight (WW), yearling weight (YW), maternal milk (Milk), scrotal circumference (SC), dollar weaning ($W), ribeye area (RE), marbling (Marb) and dollar beef ($B).
