McFarland Selected to Represent Angus at YCC

Landi McFarland of Ellston, Iowa, has been selected to represent the American Angus Association (AAA) at the 2011 National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) Young Cattlemen’s Conference (YCC).

The Angus Foundation will sponsor McFarland’s registration and travel expenses.

This is the ninth year the Angus Foundation has funded an Association member to attend YCC.

YCC allows young leaders the chance to see first-hand and further understand all aspects of the beef industry. Attendees participate in a nationwide tour of the beef production chain from ranch to feedlot to packing plant, through marketing and regulatory affairs and finally ending at consumer foodservice.

“YCC is another outstanding opportunity for the Angus Foundation to invest in the education of our young Angus breeders and members. By investing in education, one of the three priorities in our mission statement, we hope to provide our members with the continuing knowledge they need to become leaders and spokespeople for the cattle business,” states Milford Jenkins, Angus Foundation President.

A partner in Hoover Angus Farm, her family’s registered Angus operation, McFarland has excelled in leadership roles throughout her life. McFarland has made a name for herself by continually seeking involvement in industry educational programs, agriculture policy issues and Angus topics as well. McFarland also has a national reputation for producing functional, quality cattle that perform for the registered and commercial industry. McFarland clearly understands the needs of the Angus and beef industries.

“I’m excited to further my leadership skills at YCC and put to good use the experiences this conference will provide. I know I will emerge with an enhanced knowledge level enabling me to become an even stronger advocate of the Angus breed and the beef industry,” McFarland states.

Recent tours have typically began at the NCBA headquarters in Denver, Colo., then traveling to Swift & Company headquarters, visiting a feedyard in Kansas, a packing plant in South Dakota, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, and seedstock operations in Virginia, before ending the trip in Washington D.C., which includes stops at USDA, the Capitol, the White House and the Department of the Interior.
