Patricia Vaassen Received the Junior Bronze
& Silver Awards
Patricia
Vaassen, Ann Arbor, Mich., has earned the National Junior Angus
Association’s (NJAA) Bronze and Silver Awards, according to James Fisher, director of junior activities for
the American Angus Association® in Saint Joseph, Mo.
Patricia
is the 16-year-old daughter of Dan and Sharon Vaassen
and attends Saline
High School. She is a member of the NJAA and Michigan
Junior Angus Association, where she is the secretary. Patricia served as the 2007 Michigan
Angus Queen and voting delegate. She
has entered the NJAA photography and All-American Certified Angus Beef®
Cook-off contests for several years at the National Junior Angus Show as
well as participated in the mentoring program and national Leaders Engaged in
Angus Development (LEAD) Conference.
Patricia has shown her Angus cattle and competed in showmanship at
numerous shows on the local, state and national levels. A member since 1991, Patricia has
enrolled her cattle in the Angus Herd Improvement Records (AHIR®)
and consigned a bull to the Michigan Beef Expo.
The
Bronze and Silver Awards are the first two levels of the NJAA Recognition
Program that began in 1972.
Junior Angus breeders must apply for the awards and then meet point
requirements in many areas of participation before receiving the honors. Applicants are evaluated in the areas
of junior Angus association activities and leadership, participation in
showmanship, contests and shows, using performance testing to improve their
herd and their progress in producing and merchandising Angus cattle.
The
NJAA promotes the involvement of young people in raising Angus cattle, while
also providing leadership and self-development opportunities for nearly
11,000 members nationwide.
