Bronze & Silver Pins Awarded to Jaclyn Upperman

Jaclyn Upperman, Chambersburg, Pa., has earned the National Junior Angus Association’s (NJAA) Bronze and Silver Awards, according to James Fisher, director of junior activities for the American Angus Association® in Saint Joseph, Mo.

Jaclyn is very active in the Pennsylvania Junior Angus Association, and currently serves as president.  She represents the state as their Angus queen and will be a voting delegate to the annual meeting of the NJAA.  Jaclyn has entered the NJAA team fitting, judging and quiz bowl contests at the National Junior Angus Show.  She has shown her Angus cattle at numerous shows on the local, state, regional and national levels.  A member since 1998, Jaclyn has enrolled her cattle in the Angus Herd Improvement Records (AHIR®).  She is the 19-year-old daughter of Steven and Jane Upperman and attends Shenandoah University, where she is studying to be a nurse.

The Bronze and Silver Awards are the first two levels of the NJAA Recognition Program that began in 1972.  Junior Angus breeders must apply for the awards and then meet point requirements in many areas of participation before receiving the honors.  Applicants are evaluated in the areas of junior Angus association activities and leadership, participation in showmanship, contests and shows, using performance testing to improve their herd and their progress in producing and merchandising Angus cattle.

The NJAA promotes the involvement of young people in raising Angus cattle, while also providing leadership and self-development opportunities for nearly 11,000 members nationwide.
