Jera Pipkin Earned the Junior Bronze & Silver Pins

Jera Pipkin, Republic, Mo., has earned the National Junior Angus Association’s (NJAA) Bronze and Silver Awards, according to James Fisher, director of junior activities for the American Angus Association® in Saint Joseph, Mo.

Jera is the 11-year-old daughter of James and Joann Pipkin and attends Republic R-III School.  She is a member of the NJAA, Missouri and local junior Angus associations.  Jera has shown her Angus cattle and competed in showmanship at numerous shows on the local, state and national levels.  She has entered the NJAA poster, graphic design and quiz bowl contests at the National Junior Angus Show as well as the All-American Certified Angus Beef® Cook-off and participated in the mentoring program.  A member since 1997, Jera has enrolled her cattle in the Angus Herd Improvement Records (AHIR®) and consigned cattle to the Missouri Angus Futurity and Clearwater Farm production sales.

The Bronze and Silver Awards are the first two levels of the NJAA Recognition Program that began in 1972.  Junior Angus breeders must apply for the awards and then meet point requirements in many areas of participation before receiving the honors.  Applicants are evaluated in the areas of junior Angus association activities and leadership, participation in showmanship, contests and shows, using performance testing to improve their herd and their progress in producing and merchandising Angus cattle.

The NJAA promotes the involvement of young people in raising Angus cattle, while also providing leadership and self-development opportunities for nearly 11,000 members nationwide.
