Colby Myers Earns Junior Bronze & Silver Awards

Colby Myers, Harrodsburg, Ky., has earned the National Junior Angus Association’s (NJAA) Bronze and Silver Awards, according to James Fisher, director of junior activities for the American Angus Association® in Saint Joseph, Mo.

Myers, the 16-year-old son of Joe and Toni Myers, is an active member of the NJAA and Kentucky Junior Angus Association.  He has served as a director for his state’s junior board and has exhibited his cattle at many state and national shows.  Myers has placed first in showmanship numerous years at the Kentucky Angus Junior Preview Show.  He has participated in National Junior Angus Show (NJAS) contests including the All-American Certified Angus Beef® Cook-off and livestock judging.  A member of the NJAA since 2001, Myers has enrolled his cattle in Angus Herd Improvement Records (AHIR®) and has consigned cattle to Central Kentucky’s winter and spring sales.

Myers attends Boyle County High School and has been recognized on the state level in FFA competitions.  Also active in 4-H, he will attend the National 4-H Congress in the fall.  Outside of the classroom and organizations, Myers attended an artificial insemination training program through American Breeders Service (ABS) in the spring of 2007.

The Bronze and Silver Awards are the first two levels of the NJAA Recognition Program that began in 1972.  Junior Angus breeders must apply for the awards and then meet point requirements in many areas of participation before receiving the honors.  Applicants are evaluated in areas of junior Angus association activities and leadership, participation in showmanship, contests and shows, using performance testing to improve their herd and their progress in producing and merchandising Angus cattle.

The NJAA promotes the involvement of young people in raising Angus cattle, while also providing leadership and self-development opportunities for nearly 11,000 members nationwide.
