Daniel McFarland Honored with the Junior Angus Bronze & Silver Pins

According to James Fisher, director of junior activities for the American Angus Association® in Saint Joseph, Mo., Daniel McFarland, Keithville, La., has earned the National Junior Angus Association’s (NJAA) Bronze and Silver Awards.

Daniel is the 15-year-old son of Mairus and Regina McFarland and attends Caddo Parish Magnet High School.  He is a member of the NJAA and the Louisiana Junior Angus Association, where he serves as Northwest director.  Since joining the Association in 2002, Daniel has purchased several cows to develop his Angus herd.  He has shown his Angus cattle and participated in showmanship at numerous shows on the state and national levels.  At the National Junior Angus Show, he has participated in the mentoring program and the public speaking and poster contests.  Daniel also participated in the 2007 Leaders Engaged in Angus Development (LEAD) Conference in Athens, Ga.

The Bronze and Silver Awards are the first two levels of the NJAA Recognition Program that began in 1972.  Junior Angus breeders must apply for the awards and then meet point requirements in many areas of participation before receiving the honors.  Applicants are evaluated in the areas of junior Angus association activities and leadership, participation in showmanship, contests and shows, using performance testing to improve their herd and their progress in producing and merchandising Angus cattle.

The NJAA promotes the involvement of young people in raising Angus cattle, while also providing leadership and self-development opportunities for nearly 11,000 members nationwide.
