Katie Hymel Received Bronze & Silver Awards

According to James Fisher, director of junior activities for the American Angus Association® in Saint Joseph, Mo., Katie Hymel, Vacherie, La., has earned the National Junior Angus Association’s (NJAA) Bronze and Silver Awards.

Katie is the 18-year-old daughter of Eddie and Patti Hymel and attends Riverside Academy.  She is member of the NJAA and Louisiana Junior Angus Association, where she serves as secretary.  She has represented Louisiana as their Angus princess and queen and has attended the Leaders Engaged in Angus Development (LEAD) Conference.  Katie has competed in the photography, public speaking, and team sales contests at the National Junior Angus Show as well as the All-American Certified Angus Beef® Cook-off.

A member since 1999, Katie has excelled with her Angus cattle in the show ring on the local, state, regional and national levels.  She has enrolled her cattle in Angus Herd Improvement Records (AHIR®).

The Bronze and Silver Awards are the first two levels of the NJAA Recognition Program that began in 1972.  Junior Angus breeders must apply for the awards and then meet point requirements in many areas of participation before receiving the honors.  Applicants are evaluated in the areas of junior Angus association activities and leadership, participation in showmanship, contests and shows, using performance testing to improve their herd and their progress in producing and merchandising Angus cattle.

The NJAA promotes the involvement of young people in raising Angus cattle, while also providing leadership and self-development opportunities for nearly 11,000 members nationwide.
