Rebecca Hurst Earned the Junior Bronze & Silver Pins

Rebecca Hurst, Dorsey, Ill., has earned the National Junior Angus Association’s (NJAA) Bronze and Silver Awards, according to James Fisher, director of junior activities for the American Angus Association® in Saint Joseph, Mo.

Rebecca is the 19-year-old daughter of Richard and Dianna Hurst.  She is working towards an animal science degree at the University of Illinois with an expected graduation date of May 2011.  She is a member of the NJAA and Illinois Junior Angus Association.  Rebecca has represented Illinois as their Angus ebonnette and queen as well as an Illinois Angus Auxiliary and Angus Foundation scholarship winner.  She has shown her Angus cattle and competed in showmanship at numerous shows on the local, state and national levels.  A member since 1997, she has entered the NJAA photography, judging and quiz bowl contests at the National Junior Angus Show.

The Bronze and Silver Awards are the first two levels of the NJAA Recognition Program that began in 1972.  Junior Angus breeders must apply for the awards and then meet point requirements in many areas of participation before receiving the honors.  Applicants are evaluated in the areas of junior Angus association activities and leadership, participation in showmanship, contests and shows, using performance testing to improve their herd and their progress in producing and merchandising Angus cattle.

The NJAA promotes the involvement of young people in raising Angus cattle, while also providing leadership and self-development opportunities for nearly 11,000 members nationwide.
