Bronze & Silver Pins Awarded to Taylor Gazda

Taylor Gazda, Athens, Ga., has earned the National Junior Angus Association’s (NJAA) Bronze and Silver Awards, according to James Fisher, director of junior activities for the American Angus Association® in Saint Joseph, Mo.  She received her pins at the recent Raising the Bar Conference in Baton Rouge, La.

A member since birth, Taylor is the 15-year-old daughter of David and Carolyn Gazda and attends Athens Academy.  She is an active member of the NJAA and Georgia Junior Angus Association, where she currently serves as secretary.  She served as the Georgia Angus princess for two years.  In 2007, Taylor was a mentor in the NJAA mentoring program and attended the Leaders Engaged in Angus Development (LEAD) Conference.  She also sang during the opening ceremonies of the National Junior Angus Show in Tulsa, Okla., and started the show one morning with the national anthem.

Taylor has excelled with her Angus cattle in the show ring and in showmanship at numerous shows on the local, state, regional, and national levels.  She has enrolled her cattle in the Angus Herd Improvement Records (AHIR®) program and consigned cattle to the Cattlemen’s Classic.

The Bronze and Silver Awards are the first two levels of the NJAA Recognition Program that began in 1972.  Junior Angus breeders must apply for the awards and then meet point requirements in many areas of participation before receiving the honors.  Applicants are evaluated in the areas of junior Angus association activities and leadership, participation in showmanship, contests and shows, using performance testing to improve their herd and their progress in producing and merchandising Angus cattle.

The NJAA promotes the involvement of young people in raising Angus cattle, while also providing leadership and self-development opportunities for nearly 11,000 members nationwide.
