Kathleen Gazda Awarded Junior Bronze & Silver Pins

According to James Fisher, director of junior activities for the American Angus Association® in Saint Joseph, Mo., Kathleen Gazda, Athens, Ga., has earned the National Junior Angus Association’s (NJAA) Bronze and Silver Awards.

Kathleen is the 18-year-old daughter of David and Carolyn Gazda and attends Athens Academy.  She is an active member of the NJAA and Georgia Junior Angus Association, where she’s held several officer positions.  Serving as a leader in her 4-H club, county and state junior cattlemen’s associations is also important to Kathleen.  She placed second in the Georgia Beef Industry Scholarship Challenge.

Kathleen has represented the Georgia Angus breeders as their princess and queen as well as a voting delegate to the NJAA Annual Meeting.  She has shown her Angus cattle and competed in showmanship at numerous shows on the local, state, regional, and national levels.  A member since 1990, she has enrolled her cattle in the Angus Herd Improvement Records (AHIR®).

The Bronze and Silver Awards are the first two levels of the NJAA Recognition Program that began in 1972.  Junior Angus breeders must apply for the awards and then meet point requirements in many areas of participation before receiving the honors.  Applicants are evaluated in the areas of junior Angus association activities and leadership, participation in showmanship, contests and shows, using performance testing to improve their herd and their progress in producing and merchandising Angus cattle.

The NJAA promotes the involvement of young people in raising Angus cattle, while also providing leadership and self-development opportunities for nearly 11,000 members nationwide.
