National Western Angus Bull Sale sets New Records

Angus breeders from across the nation consigned 23 lots to the 2008 National Western Angus Bull Sale January 17 in Denver, Colo. The sale, which is the only sale managed by the American Angus Association^®, set new records with an average selling price of $10,857 on 23 lots. A panel of five judges including Mike Jones, Folsom, La.; Mike McGuire, Waverly, Ala.; Rick Blanchard, Firebaugh, Calif.; Scott Bush, Britton, S.D.; and Cheramie Viator, Franklin, Texas, evaluated the bulls and picked division and overall champions.

Boyd Beef Cattle and Blake Boyd, both of Mayslick, Ky., consigned the grand champion bull. Boyd Heritage 6078 is an April 2006 son of CA Future Direction 5321 and first won intermediate yearling champion. The bull was one of two high-selling lots that sold for $55,000. A group of Angus breeders purchased the bull and include: Pollard Farms L L C, Enid, Okla.; Limestone LLC, Stillwater, Okla.; Deer Valley Farm, Fayetteville, Tenn.; Sonrise Ranches LLC, Owasso, Okla.; Kiamichi Link Ranch, Tulsa, Okla.; Turner Farms, Satin, Texas; Trowbridge Angus, Ghent, N.Y.; Express Angus Ranches, Yukon, Okla.; Sand Point Cattle Company, Lodgepole, Neb.; and South Mountain Ranch, Caldwell, Idaho.

W C C Adventure S212 claimed reserve grand champion bull honors. Wilson Cattle Company, Cloverdale, Ind., consigned the October 2006 son of S A V 8180 Traveler 004 that first won early winter calf champion. Hugh Ross, Innisfail, Alberta, Canada, purchased the lot for $16,000.

The other top selling lot was Werner Ultimate 1596, consigned by Werner Angus, Cordova, Ill. A group of producers purchased the bull for $55,000 and include: Limestone LLC, Stillwater, Okla.; Turner Farms, Satin, Texas; Top Line Farm, Tremont, Ill.; Buford Ranches LLC, Tulsa, Okla.; Marty Couch, Macon, Mo.; and Scott Crawford, Platte City, Mo.

Riverbend Ranch, Idaho Falls, Idaho, sold Riverbend Grand Canyon for $34,000. Enyart Mitchell, Coushatta, La., purchased the bull. Whitestone Farm, Aldie, Va., consigned LaRue of Whitestone, a bull that sold for $10,000. Bragunier Farms Inc., Clear Spring, Md., purchased the bull.
