2005 National Angus Conference & Tour set in Show-Me State

The 2005 National Angus Conference & Tour is set for Sept. 27-29.  Hosted by the American Angus Association, and sponsored by Purina Mills LLC, the major partner, and Alpharma Animal Health, this year’s event “Show-Me the Future,” includes a half-day conference and 1 ½ days of tours throughout Missouri.

The Association will conduct “Back to the Basics” seminars on Sept. 27, starting at 1:30 p.m. at the Hilton Kansas City Airport.  Registration opens from noon to 5 p.m.  The event kicks off with dinner that evening and keynote speaker Tom Field, Colorado State University, and his presentation, “I’ll Show you the Future.”

The conference continues on Wednesday, Sept. 28.  Featured speakers include Randy Blach, Cattle-Fax; Tom Brink, Five Rivers Ranch Cattle Feeding; Don Schiefelbein, Schiefelbein Farms; and Jim Gosey, University of NebraskaLincoln.

Following lunch, the tour begins with a stop in Saint Joseph, Mo., at the headquarters of the American Angus Association and Angus Productions Inc.  The tour will continue north of Saint Joseph, where all Missouri Angus members are invited to display cattle for the evening.

On Thursday, Sept. 29, the tour travels to central Missouri.  Circle A North, Huntsville, is the morning stop.  Tour goers will have the opportunity to see the feeding and research facility, as well as view some of the commercial females in Dave Gust’s herd.  An early afternoon stop is set for Fox Run Farms LLC, Mexico.  Bob and Dena Baudendistel will showcase their operation and host lunch.  The tour will conclude at Sydenstricker Genetics, Mexico.  Eddie Sydenstricker will host the evening meal before the buses return to Kansas City.

“Purina Mills is pleased to be the major partner for this event that features some of the industry’s top speakers and the exposure to some of Missouri’s progressive Angus herds,” says Rod Nulik, Purina Mills Marketing Manager.  “Both Purina Mills and the American Angus Association share a common goal of being visionaries within our industry while providing top customer service and information to cattle producers.”

Pre-registration for the event is available online at www.angus.org, or by contacting the American Angus Association and asking for Linda Campbell.  Pre-register by Aug. 15, for only $75, which includes meals, bus transportation and conference materials.  After Aug. 15, registration cost is $100.  No refunds will be issued after Aug. 15.

A room block for the National Angus Conference & Tour has been reserved at the Hilton Kansas City Airport.  Call the Hilton at 816-891-8900 before Sept. 6, to secure a rate of $89 per night plus tax.

More detailed information about the Conference & Tour will be online at www.angusjournal.com/nationalconference.  The National Angus Conference & Tour is just one of several events planned and hosted annually by the American Angus Association for its members and commercial cattle producers interested in Angus genetics.
