CHAMPIONS PARADE AT 2004

 

NATIONAL JUNIOR ANGUS SHOW

 

IN KANSAS CITY, “ANGUS & ALL THAT JAZZ”

 

            Junior Angus exhibitors from across the United States came together for the 2004 National Junior Angus Show, “Angus & All That Jazz,” July 12-17 in Kansas City, Mo.  The Missouri Junior Angus and Missouri Angus Associations hosted the event, which is the largest single-breed beef cattle show in the world.

            Youth led 1,206 entries at this year’s event, which included 695 owned females, 251 bred-and-owned females, 76 bred-and-owned bulls, 66 cow-calf pairs, 65 steers and 53 carcass steers.  Brian McCulloh, Viroqua, Wis., evaluated the owned females.  Mark McClintock, Fort McKavitt, Texas, judged the bred-and-owned females, bred-and-owned bulls and cow-calf pairs, and Jim Gillooly, Washington, Ind., evaluated the steers.

            Paige Wallace, Stotts City, Mo., led the grand champion owned female, W C C Frontier Gal 39.  The January 2003 daughter of B/R New Frontier 095 first won junior champion division 4.

            Emily McCurry, Burrton, Kan., claimed reserve grand champion owned female honors with Marands Miss Wix 2301.  The January 2003 daughter of Marands Donamere 9845 of JJM earlier won reserve junior champion division 4.

            Kelly Penner, Mill Creek, Okla., led the grand champion bred-and-owned female.  P R 629 205-554 is a December 2003 daughter of B A R Ext Traveler 205.  She first won heifer calf champion.

            Katrina Womack, Pembroke, Ky., showed the reserve grand champion bred-and-owned female, Grandview Womack Lucy 2713.  The November 2003 daughter of Twin Valley Precision E161 first won reserve heifer calf champion.

            Katy Satree, Montague, Texas, led the grand champion bred-and-owned bull, DAJS The Rock 024.  The October 2003 son of Northern Improvement 4480 GF first won bull calf champion.

            Amber Barker, Sparks, Nev., showed the reserve grand champion bred-and-owned bull.  BR One Famous Stockman, a February 2003 son of Famous 7001, first topped the junior division.

            Barker also showed the grand champion bred-and-owned cow-calf pair.  BR Starburst Eline is a February 2002 daughter of Famous 7001.  A March 2004 bull calf sired by W C C Precision E161 J239 is at side.

            Satree showed the reserve grand champion bred-and-owned cow-calf pair.  Dajs Beulah L110 is a May 2001 daughter of Northern Improvement 4480 GF.  A March 2004 daughter of Leachman Saugahatchee 3000C completes the winning pair.

            Satree also claimed grand champion honors in the owned cow-calf pair show.  D A J S Lauren K024 is a September 2000 daughter of Leachman Saugahatchee 3000C.  An October 2003 bull calf sired by Northern Improvement 4480 GF completes the winning duo.

            Jake Tiedeman, North Platte, Neb., led the reserve grand champion owned cow-calf pair.  Hope Hill Katinka 0309 is an April 2000 daughter of N Bar Emulation EXT.  A March 2004 bull calf sired by Baldridge Nebraska 901 is at side.

            Jennifer Esbeck, Blairsburg, Iowa, led the grand champion steer.  C F Raptor 14 is an April 2003 son of Dameron P V F Raptor 702.

            Jessica Jallo, Fordville, N.D., showed the reserve grand champion steer.  JAR Pecos Bill 3182 is an April 2003 son of WK Designers Pride 1612.

            In the carcass show, Hannah McCabe, Elk City, Kan., entered the grand champion entry.  Her steer dressed at 65.40 percent with a ribeye area of 14.9 square inches.  Her steer graded prime and met Certified Angus Beef® Prime specifications.

            Ethan McCabe, Elk City, Kan., entered the reserve grand champion carcass steer.  He had a 64.10 percent dressing percentage, and a ribeye area of 14.7 square inches.  His steer also graded prime and met Certified Angus Beef® Prime specifications.
