This program would give attention to the individual show-winning animals themselves (rather than entirely to their sires and dams) with continued recognition to the sires of major award winners.  The system also places attention to the winners and sires and dams of winners on an annual, current year basis, rather than on an accumulation of points over many years.

The distinction given to the higher placing show animals and winners of the greatest number of points include:

  1. Show bull of the year
  2. Show heifer of the year
  3. Show sire of the year
  4.       A.)  Show dam of the year (natural calves)
B.)  Show dam of the year (embryo transplant calves)
  5. Show breeder of the year
  6. Division champions of the year
Points will also be awarded to the following divisional champions and reserves, as well as grand champions and reserve grand champions:

Junior heifer calf Junior bull calf
Senior heifer calf Senior bull calf
    Intermediate female Intermediate bull
    Junior female Junior bull
    Senior female Senior bull
Cow/calf, junior get-of-sire and get-of-sire classes are also recognized.

The show recognition program will consist of 15 shows:
Five super point shows (equal points),
Ten recognition point shows (equal points).
Both the super and recognized point shows will be at the same locations annually.

  1. If a recognized ROV show splits a championship division, championship points will be split accordingly.
All five super ROV shows will receive full points for both early and late championship divisions if the divisions are split.
All super point shows receive the same number of points and all recognized shows receive the same number of points. Shows will be permitted to add only early and late champions to the standard division champions of the American Angus Association.
  2. One person cannot judge more than one ROV Show in the same show year. A person cannot judge an ROV show and the owned and bred-and-owned heifer show within the same show year.
  3. Recognized point shows may submit three judges' names (in order of preference) to the American Angus Association by February 1 (the year preceding their show) to be approved by the board of directors. If the recognized point show does not wish to submit names the American Angus Association will make the selections.Judges MUST NOT be contacted before they are approved.
  4. Canadian registered cattle must be registered with the American Angus Association by entry deadline of the individual shows to be eligible for ROV points.

DISTRIBUTION OF POINTS EARNED:
  1. Points are earned only from the designated shows held within a show season, June 1 - May 31.  The winners will be referred to as the show bull, show heifer, show dam, and show sire of the year.
  2. For show bull and show heifer of the year, points are calculated from class placings, division champion and reserve division champion, and grand and reserve grand points. For division champions of the year, points are calculated from division champion and reserve division champion placings only. Allowable points are limited to the top two super point shows and top two recognized point shows. An animal may be shown in as many shows as desired.
  3. For sire of the year and dam of the year (natural and E. T.), points will be allowed from all ROV shows in a show season.
  4. For breeder of the year, points will be allowed from the top two super point shows and top two recognized point shows, per animal, in a show season. An animal may be shown in as many shows as desired.
  5. Points will be awarded to those animals that place in the individual classes. Points will also be awarded to the following divisional champions and reserves, as well as grand champions and reserve grand champions:
Junior heifer calf Junior bull calf
Senior heifer calf Senior bull calf
    Intermediate female Intermediate bull
    Junior female Junior bull
    Senior female Senior bull

When shows have divisions for animals younger than Junior Heifer Calf and Junior Bull Calf, those animals will receive class points and division points which will only apply toward Sire of the Year, Dam of the Year and Breeder of the Year. (Animals must be shown within the standard show classifications; otherwise points will be forfeited.)
  6. Points from the get-of-sire classes will be applied only to the get-of-sire of the year awards and sire of the year awards (not show bull of the year). Allowable points are limited to the top two super point shows and the top two recognized point shows.
  7. Points will be awarded to entries that place in the cow/calf individual classes and grand and reserve champion. The calf must be the cow's most recent natural calf and must meet the age requirements as defined in the individual show's classifications. There will be no division champions. Grand and reserve cow/calf pairs do not show for grand champion female and are ineligible to compete in the get-of-sire, junior get-of-sire and breeder-six-head classes. Cow-calf points will not be accumulated toward sire of the year, dam of the year or breeder of the year.
  8. To receive credit for points claimed, all show entries must meet the requirements for show eligibility of the American Angus Association and the respective show management.
