Angus Foundation Celebrates Silver Anniversary

The Angus Foundation celebrated its 25th anniversary during its donor recognition event, “Creating Legacies,” November 12 in Louisville, Ky.  The evening was highlighted by several events.

Blanford and Joan Pierce, Creston, Ill., presented the Angus Foundation a $25,000 gift to establish the Woodlawn Farms Angus scholarship endowment.  The endowment is the first of its kind to the Angus Foundation—funded solely by one individual Angus breeder and donor.  The first Woodlawn Farms Scholarship will be presented at the 2006 National Junior Angus Show in Indianapolis, Ind., and qualifications for the scholarship are similar to those of the other Foundation scholarships.

“This wonderful scholarship endowment carrying the Woodlawn Farms’ legacy in perpetuity will make an impact on the lives of numerous young men and women by empowering them to pursue their dreams of acquiring a college education,” says Milford H. Jenkins, director of development for the Angus Foundation.  “These Angus youth will be grateful to Blanford and Joan for their generosity in giving something back to the Angus breed that has meant so much to them and the Pierce family since the birth of Woodlawn Farms in 1883.”

Another exciting event to mark the 25th year of the Angus Foundation was the auction of a one-of-a-kind commemorative Winchester 30-30 rifle.  David McMahon and his family, Belle Point Ranch, Lavaca, Ark., purchased the unique rifle for $10,000.

The night concluded with a champagne toast by Doug Dalton, Gretna, Va., who commented on the legacy created by the Angus Foundation in its first 25 years.

The Angus Foundation is a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit affiliate of the American Angus Association, with headquarters in Saint Joseph, Mo.  Anyone interested in learning more about the Foundation, and how it benefits education, youth and research, or people interested in making a contribution, can learn more about the Angus Foundation by visiting www.angusfoundation.org
