Angus Supporters Donate a Record Amount at the 5th Annual Angus Foundation Golf Tournament

Generous supporters, raised a record amount of more than $24,000 at the Angus Foundation Golf Tournament, July 19 at Thorncreek Golf Course in Thornton, Colo.  The Foundation, which supports education, youth, and research, held the tournament in conjunction with the National Junior Angus Show in Denver, Colo.

The hot temperatures did not keep 69 golfers from teeing off for the 18-hole tournament, before enjoying a Certified Angus Beefâ steak lunch at the awards ceremony.

“Due to the record setting sponsorship support from Angus breeders and friends, along with a new attendance record in golf players in the tournament’s history, the Angus Foundation’s 2005 Annual Golf Tournament was a major success,” says Milford Jenkins, director of development for the Angus Foundation.  “Record gross income of $24,000 was raised, adding a significant amount of funds to advance our initiatives in education, youth and research for the benefit of the Angus breed and the agricultural industry.”

Event sponsor was Opperman Cattle Company, Sandy, Ore., and Belle Point Ranch, Lavaca, Ark., sponsored the awards.  Awards included golf bags, balls, putters, umbrellas, and gift certificates to the clubhouse.  Dick and Diane Beck, Red Lodge, Mont., sponsored the beverage cart and golf cart sponsor was Mel Acres Ranch, Chappell Hill, Texas.

The winning team included golfers Bill Rishel, North Platte, Neb.; Tom Corah, Broomfield, Colo.; John Hinners, Denver, Colo.; and Brad Rayl, Hutchinson, Kan.

The second place team hailed from California and Illinois.  Team members included John Dickinson, Sacramento, Calif.; Rick Dickinson, Congerville, Ill.; Jake Parnell, Sacramento, Calif.; and Kris Gudel, Elk Grove, Calif.

Third place team included golfers Dru and Trude Uden, Franklin, Neb.; and Brian Esterline and Brigg Jergenson, both of Castle Rock, Colo.

Pin prizes were awarded to the following: Chris Sankey, Council Grove, Kan., shortest drive; William Wing, Brooksville, Fla., longest putt; and Jason Riggs, Brookville, Md., closest to the pin.

Several junior Angus members took advantage of the reduced rate of $75 to participate in the golf tournament.  Junior members are encouraged and always welcome to participate in this event.

“It was a banner day for the Angus Foundation and we genuinely appreciate the generous support and participation in this increasingly popular activity where our allied industry partners, youth and Angus breeders can come together and have fun while simultaneously raising money for the Angus Foundation!” Jenkins says.
