ANGUS ENTHUSIASTS BEAT THE HEAT

TO SUPPORT FUTURE IN 4th ANNUAL

ANGUS FOUNDATION GOLF TOURNAMENT

Angus enthusiasts endured the summer humidity of Missouri to compete in the 2004 Angus Foundation Golf Tournament, July 13 at Shiloh Springs Golf Club in Platte City, Mo.  The fourth annual event was held during the National Junior Angus Show in Kansas City.  Fifty-six golfers played in this year’s tournament, with proceeds going to the Angus Foundation, which supports youth, education and research.

“The weather was a little warm, but all had a fun time,” says Milford Jenkins, director of development for the Angus Foundation.  “We had a record number of golf players and record income of almost $20,000 was raised at the tournament.”

Teams teed off in the morning, and after 18 holes of golf, enjoyed a Certified Angus Beef® steak lunch while awards were announced.  Belle Point Ranch, Lavaca, Ark., was the awards sponsor, and provided golf bags, putters, and balls, respectively to the top three teams.

Dick Beck Professional Marketing, Red Lodge, Mont., sponsored the drink cart during the event.  Cedar Creek Farm, Donalds, S.C., sponsored the carts.

“I want to thank our tournament sponsors, because without their generous support the tournament would not be the huge success that it is,” Jenkins said.

The first place team hailed included golfers from coast-to-coast, and the golfers included John Dickinson, Sacramento, Calif.; Matt Jordan and Sara Moyer, both of St. Joseph, Mo.; and David Stukus, East Greenwich, Rhode Island.

A team from Kansas and Oklahoma claimed second place honors.  Team members included Todd Hale, Lauren Hale and Warren Blaich, all of Columbus, Kan.; and Preston Pollard, Enid, Okla.

Dick Beck Professional Marketing sponsored the third place team that included Dick Carmichael, Springfield, Tenn.; Jerry Carrico, Redfield, Iowa; and Dan Ellis, Billings, Mont.

Pin prizes were awarded to the following: David Hunter, Fair Grove, Mo., closest to the pin; Cliff Ourso Jr., Donaldsonville, La., longest drive; Dick Carmichael, closest on the second shot; Kyle Cassady, Ancona, Ill., shortest drive; and Jennifer Svoboda, Sargent, Neb., longest putt.

Junior Angus members are encouraged to play at a reduced rate of $75.  This year, several took advantage of the opportunity to get away from the barns for a round of golf.

“There is the potential for future growth with both juniors and adults interested in playing and supporting the Foundation,” Jenkins said.  “I encourage everyone to bring their clubs to the ‘Mile High City’ in 2005.”
