Junior Angus Members take on Madison!
The 50th National Junior Angus Show takes place July 7-13, 2018.
The anticipation is growing as Angus families and juniors prepare for the National Junior Angus Show (NJAS), July 7-13. An event always filled with hard work and excitement, NJAS this year will be no different. Hosted by Madison, Wisconsin, in the Alliant Energy Center, the competition can promise to be stiff within the different cattle shows and showmanship contests, as well as educational with clinics put on by industry leaders and a tradeshow that is widely recognized.

NJAS Cattle Shows
With almost 1,900 Angus cattle entered into various contests, this year’s show will be large, encompassing cattle from 34 different states, as well as animals from Canada, to compete. Starting with the Bred & Owned Heifer Show on Tuesday, July 10 at 8:00 a.m. (CST), these juniors and cattle will be competing nonstop. The rest of the week will host shows of bred-and-owned bulls, bred-and-owned cow-calf pairs, bred-and-owned best five head, owned cow-calf pairs, owned heifers, owned best five head and steers.
States can participate in competing for the best five head, while individuals compete for the Junior Premier Breeder and Silver Pitcher Award. Judges for the various contests listed above include Doug Satree, Kyle Coyler, Miles Shout, Katy Satree and Jirl Buck.
Showmanship, one of the most competitive contests among these young juniors, will begin preliminaries on July 11. Two junior members from each state will receive the opportunity to compete for the title of “Top Showman.” Judges for showmanship this year include Jessica Radcliffe, Weston, Wisconsin; John Griswold, Stillwater, Oklahoma; and Dan Kiesewetter, Farmington, Illinois. Showmanship finals are Friday, July 13, at 8:00 a.m. (CST).
Educational Contests
Outside of the showring, there are still many opportunities for awards and competitive spirits, including more than 15 different contests ranging from public speaking, career development, livestock judging or graphic design.
Each state can enter contests including the quiz bowl, team sales, team marketing and fitting contests, as well as the American Angus Auxiliary-sponsored All-American Certified Angus Beef® Cook-Off, herdsmanship and scrapbook contests.
Media Kit
