NJAA Announces 2018 Advisor of the Year

The Nations Junior Angus Association announces the Advisor of the Year at the 50th National Junior Angus Show, in Madison, Wisconsin.

Being recognized for their dedication to the youth and the members of the National Junior Angus Association, Aaron and Sue Schafer, were announced as the NJAA Advisor of the year for 2018. Their passionate, selfless and accountable attitude towards these members makes them the perfect recipients of this award.

This Illinois couple has created a legacy within the breed, sharing their knowledge with the youth and spending countless hours working to ensure the success of events and the membership. “We are fortunate enough in our breed association to have many adult leaders who unselfishly give out their time to benefit and guide our youth,” said Jeff Dameron, a friend and observer of the Schafer’s for the years they have been involved. “Sue and Aaron are a great example of this.”

The focus of their work has been using their educational backgrounds to encourage these junior members to be better communicators and effective presenters. Leadership, within the association, the breed and the industry are key ideals they focus on to ensure junior success. The National Junior Angus Association is proud to recognize Aaron and Sue Schafer for their hard-work, dedication and knowledgeable contributions to this breed and its youth.

“It was a total surprise to receive this award,” said Sue Schafer. “Without the help of our other advisors, Theresa Miller and Trevor Cooper, we would not have had the success we do today.”

Winning at the 50th anniversary of the National Junior Angus Show, makes it that much more special, “there is so much history there, and I am following in the footsteps of so many, including my mentor Rachel Frost who also won this award, and that, combined with the history makes it even more special,” said Sue Schafer.

The NJAA Advisor of the Year Award was introduced in 1980 to recognize the tremendous contributions of junior Angus association advisors. Any junior Angus association advisors are eligible for the award by sending in a letter of nomination.
