Setting an Example, Richardson McClung Ranch
Murl and Lucian Richardson recognized as 2014 Honorary Angus Foundation inductees
Murl and Lucian Richardson of Richardson McClung Ranch, Fort Worth, Texas, have been supporters of Angus youth for many years through the Angus Foundation and their home state of Texas. Through their generous contributions to the Texas Challenge and major gifts each year, the Richardsons have been role models for other Angus breeders in Texas and across the nation with their charitable giving.
To honor the Richardsons, the National Junior Angus Association (NJAA) chose to induct them into the Honorary Angus Foundation during the 2014 National Junior Angus Show (NJAS) in Indianapolis, Ind.
“Recognized this past November for achieving the Lifetime Angus Patron giving level, Murl and Lucian’s unrestricted giving to the Angus Foundation has played a crucial role in our ability to award general undergraduate and graduate scholarships each year,” says Milford Jenkins, Angus Foundation president.
Murl became involved in the Angus breed when he and Lucian started dating more than 60 years ago. He learned the business through Lucian’s father at the McClung Ranch, which operated at the time in southern Oklahoma and central Texas. The ranch, just west of Fort Worth in Rising Star, Texas, is currently home to 400 Angus cows.
“Murl and Lucian are, without a doubt, two of the nicest, most genuine people I've had the privilege of getting to know,” says Radale Tiner, American Angus Association® regional manager for Texas, New Mexico and Louisiana. “Since becoming the regional manager, I've had the opportunity to get to know them better. After meeting them, you soon realize they are passionate about family, friends and Angus cattle.”
In 1985, the NJAA Board of Directors established the Honorary Angus Foundation to recognize and thank those who have shown incredible support of Angus youth. Seven Angus breeders were honored as the first inductees, and each year the NJAA honors a maximum of three individuals. Any member of the American Angus Association is eligible to nominate individuals or organizations for the Honorary Angus Foundation. A complete list of members can be found online.
