Angus Foundation Heifer Package Goes to Three-Peat Buyer

Herbster Angus Farms purchases the foundation heifer for $175,000 for a third consecutive year.

A packed crowd in the Beef Palace Arena at the National Western Stock Show (NWSS) on Wednesday, Jan. 14, witnessed an impressive $175,000 bid for the Angus Foundation Heifer Package. Charles W. and Judy Herbster of Herbster Angus Farms, Falls City, Neb., purchased 44 Ruby 3839, donated by 44 Farms of Cameron, Texas, during Angus events at the NWSS. Since its inception in 1980, the heifer package has raised more than $1.9 million for education, youth and research investments through the Angus Foundation.

“At Herbster Angus Farms, we share the same values as our close friends Mr. Bob McClaren and 44 Farms: embracing the pioneer spirit of our ancestors and continuing to promote the future of our youth through education and research,” says Charles W. Herbster, owner of Herbster Angus Farms. “This is the third time we’ve been able to purchase the Angus Foundation Heifer Package. By fostering the growth of the agricultural industry, we hope to continue the rich tradition and priceless experience in which the Angus Foundation provides to our next generation of ranchers.”

Along with Charles W. Herbster were Brittany E. Barker, Executive Vice President; Mandy Raithel, Manager; and her daughter, Miranda.

In addition to the heifer, Herbster Angus Farms will receive 30 days of free insurance from American Live Stock Insurance Co., Geneva, Ill.; free transportation to the buyer’s ranch provided by Lathrop Livestock Transportation, Dundee, Ill.; and an advanced reproductive technology package from Trans Ova Genetics and its cloning division, ViaGen, Sioux Center, Iowa.

“This fundraising event is a long-time tradition for the Angus Foundation that provides support for our growing scholarship fund, unique educational experiences and upcoming research projects,” says Milford Jenkins, Angus Foundation president. “We would like to extend a huge thank you to 44 Farms, Herbster Angus Farms, contending bidders and our additional package sponsors. Without these generous supporters, this event would not be possible.”
