Herbster Angus Farms Purchases the Angus Foundation Heifer Package

Proceeds from the sale at the National Western Stock Show benefit the Angus Foundation.

Herbster Angus Farms, Falls City, Neb., bid $120,000 on Jan. 15 to purchase the 2014 Angus Foundation Heifer, EXAR Royal Lass 2068, donated by Express Angus Ranches of Yukon, Okla. Each year during the National Western Stock Show, the Angus Foundation offers the Angus Foundation Heifer Package fundraiser, and more than $1.7 million has been raised through this event since 1980.

“We purchased the Angus Foundation Heifer Package for the second time because of what it represents,” says Charles W. Herbster, owner of Herbster Angus Farms. “It is an honor to be an example for the Angus youth, with someone as successful as Bob Funk of Express Ranches, as we represent the foundation of America. It is a privilege for us to pass this on to the next generation.”

Along with Charles W. Herbster, Ed Raithel, manager, represented Herbster Angus Farms at the auction. Angus breeders packed into the arena to support the heifer package sale, which will benefit the Angus Foundation’s efforts toward youth, education and research.

“The Angus Foundation Heifer Package strengthens our organization’s abilities to provide scholarships and leadership opportunities to our youth and educational experiences for adult members, and to advance research for the Angus breed and beef cattle industry,” says Milford Jenkins, Angus Foundation president. “We especially want to thank Bob Funk for donating this heifer and Charles W. and Judy Herbster for buying the heifer, in addition to all contending bidders who helped make this possible.”

In addition to the heifer, Herbster Angus Farms will receive 30 days of free insurance from American Live Stock Insurance Co., Geneva, Ill.; free transportation to the buyer’s ranch provided by Lathrop Livestock Transportation, Dundee, Ill.; and an Advanced Reproductive Technology Package from Trans Ova Genetics’ cloning division ViaGen, Sioux Center, Iowa.

“The Angus Foundation also extends a thank you to American Live Stock Insurance, Lathrop Livestock Transportation and Trans Ova Genetics and ViaGen whose contributions add an extra value to the package,” Jenkins says.
