Important Update on
Neuropathic Hydrocephalus (NH) - On Wednesday, April 29, 2009, the Board
of Directors of the American Angus Association conducted a special meeting by
phone. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the ongoing work of a Special
Committee appointed by the Board to examine the Association's recently-enacted
genetic defect policy and that policy's applicability to Neuropathic
Hydrocephalus (NH).

includes a listing of preliminary test results provided by Dr. Jon Beever,
University of Illinois, on samples submitted to him from AI organizations.

Important Update on Hydrocephalus - On February 13, 2009,
the American Angus Association posted a notice setting forth a request to Association members from Dr. David Steffen of the University of Nebraska,
asking them to be on the lookout for calves born with an extreme form of hydrocephalus. That posting included pictures of affected calves.
Information received by the Association since that day has been promptly provided to Dr. Steffen who, in turn, shared it with Dr. Jon Beever at the University of Illinois.
Today, we received a report from Dr. Beever in which he concludes that the presence of the extreme form hydrocephalus in Angus cattle is the result of a recessive mutation.

Notice of February 13, 2009 - Association Requests Reporting on Certain Calves - At the request of Dr. David Steffen of the University of Nebraska, the American Angus
Association is asking members to be on the lookout for two separate and distinct types of calves, specifically (1) any calves with severe
hydrocephalus, and (2) any calves displaying characteristics of a condition referred to as fawn calf syndrome (FCS).
